Getting started

What is CompleteFrontend?

A set of free, interactive courses for frontend developers. Each lesson explains one idea in plain language, with code you can run, step through line by line, and change until it clicks.

Start with JavaScript; data structures & algorithms is next, and more topics are on the way.

Is it free?

Yes. Every lesson, the code editor, and Tuto are free to use. Signing in with Google is free too: it keeps all your progress and lets you ask Tuto as many questions as you need.

Where should I start?

Open JavaScript and begin with the first lesson. The path runs from your first line of code to how engines run JavaScript, and each lesson links to the next. If you already know the basics, jump to any stage or search for a topic with ⌘K, Ctrl K, or /.

Do I need to know how to code already?

No. The JavaScript path starts from zero, and every lesson says what you'll be able to do by the end. Later stages go deep enough for experienced developers.

Lessons and progress

How does a lesson work?

Each lesson starts with what you'll learn, explains the idea with small examples you can run and step through, shows where it's used in real code and the mistakes people often make, then ends with exercises and a short quiz.

Is my progress saved?

Lessons you finish are ticked off as you go. Without an account, this browser keeps your first 3 finished lessons. Sign in with Google to track every lesson, your quiz scores, and your streak on any device. You can see or reset it all on My progress.

Can I write my own code?

Yes. Every example in a lesson can be edited and run, and the code editor lets you write and run HTML, CSS, JavaScript, TypeScript, and React in your browser.

Can I learn on my phone?

Yes. Every page works on phones and tablets as well as on a computer.

Tuto, the AI tutor

What is Tuto?

Tuto is a tutor that knows the lesson you're reading. Ask it a question, select any text, or drag it onto a line of code, and it explains that part. Its answers come from Google's Gemini, grounded in notes written for each lesson, and it tells you when it isn't sure.

Is there a limit on Tuto's answers?

Without an account, Tuto answers 3 questions. Sign in with Google, for free, to keep asking, and the chat carries on where you left off.

Will Tuto solve practice problems for me?

No. On practice problems Tuto gives hints, never the solution, so you still get to solve it yourself. If you really want to see it, each problem has a worked solution you can open.

Data structures & algorithms

What's in the data structures & algorithms course?

Every algorithm you need, explained from zero with an everyday example and a picture you can step through, then hundreds of practice problems to solve in your browser, with XP, streaks, badges, and a daily challenge.

It opens on October 15. Until then, its page shows what's coming.

Which languages can I solve problems in?

JavaScript, TypeScript, Python, Java, C++, Go, and C#. JavaScript is the default, and the explanations use JavaScript.

About the site

Who writes the lessons?

Shrikanth PS, a Senior Software Engineer at Microsoft with more than nine years in frontend engineering. He designs the curriculum, the lesson structure, and the site; AI tools help draft lessons within that system, and every lesson is checked before it's published. How lessons are made explains it in detail.

How do I know the lessons are correct?

Each lesson has automated tests that run its code as real JavaScript and confirm the outputs, quiz answers, and exercise answers it shows, and every runnable example is checked in a real browser.

Which topics are coming next?

TypeScript, React, Angular, Vue, Next.js, HTML, CSS, Node.js, frontend system design, and web performance. There are no release dates yet; each one appears under Courses on the home page when its guide is published.

I found a mistake. How do I report it?

Use the Give feedback button at the bottom right of any page; you don't need to sign in. It goes straight to Shrikanth, and lessons are corrected when something is wrong or unclear. You can also get in touch.
